HELP - What do I do now?

USING OUR WEB SITE

General

This Help Page is intended to give you some hints on the functionality of our site.

We have brought a limited set of conventions into use and being familiar with these will help you in your search for information and exploration of the site.

Navigating Menus and other Screens

Our site uses a simple system of frames, where a menu of available options is displayed on the left-hand side of the screen. To make a selection, simply click on your required option. For the convenience of users with non-frames browsers (if there are any still out there), pages for them will be available soon-ish!

In addition some other screens, especially longer ones, may have additional "Navigation Buttons" which can be clicked on to carry out certain operations. These buttons will have their functions marked on them.

Screen Resolution and Colour Depth

We have designed our site to take account of the "standard" settings that the vast majority of Internet users' machines employ. This means that your computer should be set to an optimum resolution of 800x600 and an absolute minimum colour depth of 256 (16 bit colour, sometimes called High Color, is much better). Different manufacturers' display controllers vary in their performance and you may find that your computer's 256-colour setting is inadequate. It is always possible that you have an old machine that is incapable of achieving the required settings.

If your browser displays strange text or graphics effects, please be assured that there is nothing wrong with the site. Your computer is simply using the old 640x480 screen resolution. Likewise if the colours or resolution of the graphics appear strange then you are probably using a colour depth of less than 256. Consult the manual for your computer's operating system (most probably MS Windows) for information on how to adjust these settings - you will be amazed when you see how the Internet really looks!

If you want to test your current screen resolution click here.

Using Forms

For your convenience, we have included a Contact facility (and may introduce others in the future) in the shape of on-line forms.

Forms may contain drop-down option boxes. To use the drop-down options, simply click on the arrow at the right-hand side of the box and make your selection with another click.

Check-boxes may also be available to enable multiple selections to be made. Simply click on the box beside your selection and a cross will appear. If you make a mistake, click on the box again and the cross will disappear.

Send Request and Start Again options are available at the end of forms. Use the Start Again button only if you wish to clear the complete form and start over again.

Mail

To ensure that e-mail can be sent correctly from your browser, you should set up your Mail and News Preferences, which can be found (most likely) under Options or Tools on your browser's Toolbar.
AOL members using Netscape will be unable to use the e-mail options, including the forms, as their connection does not currently support these functions (as at 14 December 1996). If using AOL's own browser they should experience no problems. Compuserve users with the customized version of Netscape should likewise have no problems.
